(1)東北・関東・中部地方の民間で広く信仰されている家の神。東北の神体は約一尺の木か竹の棒に、男女の頭部を彫った一対の偶像。木は桑(ｸﾜ)を用いることが多い。これにオセンダクと称する布片を着せ重ねたり、烏帽子(ｴﾎﾞｼ)を被(ｶﾌﾞ)せたりする。
農神とする所が多いが、｢おしら様｣はカイコ(蚕)の別称でもあり、関東・中部では蚕神とする所も多く、東京近県では桑の小枝を持ち馬に乗った女人像を描いた掛け軸を神体にする例が多い。
いたこ(巫女)がこれを両手に持って祭文を語り｢おしら様｣に遊んでいただく事を｢オシラサマアソバセ｣と呼ぶ。
